Oh, for the record we didn’t have any drinks. So in that regard Ruth’s Chris was an excellent value. Yet in most ways the food, the service and the overall warmth of the staff more than met our high expectations. Obviously, you don’t go to a first-rate steakhouse looking for a bargain. She delivered a wry sense of humor along with our food. Her service was very friendly and professional, but not the least bit obsequious. Anywhere.Īmanda knew the menu inside out and answered our questions thoroughly. We both agreed that it’s the best Caesar we’ve ever had. Our shared Caesar salad was served on chilled plates. So it set up the rest of the meal very nicely. In fact, it really wasn’t “spicy ” more like delicately delicious. We began our experience with the spicy shrimp appetizer. The first juicy bite told me that the seasoning was absolutely perfect. I can’t recall the first (or last) time I’ve had a steak when I haven’t added salt and/or pepper. Our excellent server, Amanda, recommended it as “the restaurant’s most flavorful” steak and was she ever. My wife had the filet and I went with the cowboy ribeye. Moreįull disclosure: Our granddaughter works as a hostess at the restaurant. Ann Arbor has plenty of other restaurants to choose from. I can't see my wife or myself coming back to this location. I would be less angry if the service was better. This was a $1200 bill that the server received double what she should have. But not six people, this is deceptive in my eyes. I assumed that parties of ten or even eight or more are subject to a gratuity that is automatically added to the bill. I was focused on entertaining my guests and at the end of the night was doing my best to be in the moment and not look like some penny pincher going over the bill line by line (that would have been rude to my guests). Shame on me for not un-folding the itemized copy but this angers me. It wasn't until later the next day did I notice that a 20 percent tip had already been added to my tab (only visible on the itemized, folded copy of the bill that was neatly tucked in the side pocket of the bill folder). I added a tip and calculated the total, with my tip amount, signed, and went about my night. The itemized bill was folded and stuffed in the left pocket of the bill folder with the other copies (my receipt and the restaurant's copy for me to sign) on the right. The problem, and the reason for only two stars, came at the end of the dinner when it was time to pay the bill. To the point that I was embarrassed that two of my guest's drink glasses and water glasses were empty for and most of their appetizer and salad course. Service was not the best, visits to the table to ask if my guest wanted another drink was far and few in between. I mention this because I believe six total is not, in my book, a large group that would necessitate a gratuity to be automatically added to the bill.ĭinner was ok, not our best meal. Holiday celebration on me to thank them for the past year. I chose to entertain two other couples who are also business associates. My wife and I have eaten at the Ann Arbor Ruth's Chris location a handful of times and we very much enjoy the food.
